The best time to visit Thattekad is from November to February. During these months, the weather is cool and pleasant, making it ideal for bird watching and exploring the sanctuary. This period is also when migratory birds visit, enhancing the bird-watching experience.

On a Thattekad tour, a lens with a focal length of around 400mm is essential. An additional 100mm often proves very effective.
