For an image to look sharp, for a display to not tell the difference between two consecutive pixels, for a print to look stunning from far away, the minimum number dots or pixels per inch (please note that pixels and dots are interchangeable in this context) is 300.

How to calculate maximum print-size using DPI (PPI)?

DPI (PPI) = Number of Pixels (image size)/Print Resolution

For any given image size, the large the print, the lower the Pixels Per Inch. In other words, the image size and the PPI are inversely proportional to each other.
